Victoria Demchenko

Victoria Albertovna Demchenko was born on November 26, 1995, in Chusovoy, Russia. She followed in her father, Albert Demchenko’s footsteps, who is also a luger and later became her coach. Her career in luge began to gain international recognition with her participation in the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics and progressed steadily through the World Cup circuits.

Demchenko’s performance highlights include multiple podium finishes in the Luge World Cup series. In the 2016–17 season, she secured a 3rd place in Singles (sprint) in Sigulda, Latvia. The following season, 2017–18, saw her achieve a 2nd place in Singles (sprint) in Lillehammer, Norway. Her most significant season to date was 2018–19, where she recorded three top-three finishes, including her first World Cup title in Singles (sprint) in Sochi, Russia. During this season, she also experienced a notable incident with a heavy crash in Königssee, resulting in a minor concussion.

Her career further advanced with several medal wins in major competitions. She earned a bronze medal at the 2020 FIL World Luge Championships in Sochi for Singles. In the European Championships, Demchenko secured bronze medals in Singles in both the 2020 Lillehammer and 2021 Sigulda events. She also contributed to a gold medal win in the Team relay in Sochi during the 2018-19 season and another gold in Sochi during the 2020-21 season. Demchenko participated in the 2022 Winter Olympics, finishing 28th in the women’s singles event.
