Chinese skeleton racer Wengang Yan competes in the individual and the team events, and took home a gold medal at the 2019 North American Cup.
Even though he is just 23 years old, Yan already has considerable experience on the international skeleton circuit. He made his first appearances at senior competitions in the 2015- 2016 season, when he made his debut at the Europa Cup and the North American Cup. The following year he returned, again putting in solid performances and improving on his previous season. It was in the 2018- 2019 season that Yan really began to excel though, taking home a silver at the North American Cup and a gold at the Europe Cup. By now he had earned his reputation as a fierce competitor, and together with teammate Wenqiang Geng they became known as a formidable force on the skeleton scene. From there his career continued to grow, and he began to compete in the top level competitions. He won a gold at the North American Cup in 2019 and several successful World Cup appearances earned him a place at the World Championships in the same season.
Yan consistently finished in the top 10 at competitions around the globe in 2019- 2020, and looks set for a bright future on the ice track as one of the first Chinese skeleton racers to achieve world class results in the sport.
