During his 13 seasons, he guided the Mules to 11 winning seasons, including two 10-win seasons and the program’s first postseason berth in over 30 years with a Mineral Water Bowl victory in 2001. He then moved to Georgia Southern from 2014 to 2015, making history by leading the Eagles to an undefeated conference season in their first FBS year (2014), securing the Sun Belt Conference title, and being named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year. His time at Georgia Southern concluded with a GoDaddy.com Bowl appearance in 2015. From 2016 to 2023, Fritz orchestrated a remarkable turnaround at Tulane.
His leadership culminated in winning the 2022 American Athletic Conference title and a historic 46-45 victory over #8 USC in the 2023 Cotton Bowl Classic. This success earned him the prestigious Dodd Trophy, the George Munger College Coach of the Year Award, and two consecutive American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year awards (2022, 2023). During his tenure at Tulane, he also led the team to victories in the Cure Bowl (2018) and the Armed Forces Bowl (2019). In 2024, Fritz began his tenure as head coach at the University of Houston, continuing his trajectory of leading programs to significant achievements and national recognition.
His career consistently demonstrates a philosophy focused on fundamental development, program building, and elevating teams to unprecedented levels of success, making him one of collegiate football’s most respected and effective leaders.
