About

Jovan Jordan Bridges, known as Yvie Oddly, was born on August 22, 1993, in Denver, Colorado. Her artistic inclinations began in childhood, playing with makeup and dressing in her sister’s clothes. She participated in gymnastics and other strenuous activities until a diagnosis of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome at age fifteen led her to musical theater. Her initial exposure to drag came in middle school. Yvie Oddly embraced drag in 2012 after observing Sharon Needles on RuPaul’s Drag Race, drawn to the art form’s emphasis on creativity and wit over traditional glamour. Her performances began at Denver’s Tracks gay bar, where she developed a reputation for innovative and unconventional looks, often utilizing everyday and found materials due to financial necessity. She won the Ultimate Queen of Denver pageant in 2015.

In 2017, Yvie Oddly described her drag as a means to challenge gender roles. By 2018, her aesthetic focused on shocking and surprising audiences with unique, dramatic looks. She draws inspiration from designers Thierry Mugler and Alexander McQueen, as well as drag artist Christeene. Before her RuPaul’s Drag Race appearance, she managed her home drag bar in Denver, pursuing drag full-time. She applied for RuPaul’s Drag Race three times before being selected for season 11. In June 2019, World of Wonder announced Yvie Oddly would star in her own reality series, Yvie Oddly’s Oddities. In September 2019, she was named as part of the rotating cast for RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! in Las Vegas. Yvie Oddly released her debut album, Drag Trap, in 2020. Her biography, “All About Yvie: Into The Oddity,” co-written with Michael Bach, became a USA Today Best Seller on June 19, 2024.

Yvie Oddly gained international prominence in 2019 by winning the eleventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, becoming the second queen from Denver to compete. During the competition, her eccentric style, performance ability, and outspoken personality garnered significant attention. She was noted for a six-week streak in the top of the competition. She returned for the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, an all-winners season, in 2022. She has been part of the worldwide Werq the World drag concert tour since 2019, including North American and international legs. Yvie Oddly has openly discussed her Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), a connective tissue disorder that causes chronic pain, influencing her performance choices. In 2023, she married Doug Illsley.
