Hedda Lettuce

Hedda Lettuce, whose real name is Steven Polito, was born in 1968 in New York City and grew up on Long Island. He developed his drag persona, Hedda Lettuce, and debuted in 1991 on the Manhattan Cable TV show ‘The Brenda and Glennda Show.’ Polito earned a bachelor’s degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology before entering the performance world. His early career also included working as an assistant to Lypsinka. These early experiences provided a foundation for his subsequent career as a drag queen, comedian, and singer. He is known for incorporating audience interaction into his shows, which adds a unique aspect to his performances.

Throughout his career, Hedda Lettuce has appeared on various television programs, including MTV, Comedy Central, ‘The People’s Court,’ and ‘Sex and the City,’ where he made a cameo as a bingo drag impersonator. His film appearances include ‘To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar’ (1995), ‘Red Lipstick’ (2000), ‘Cruise Control’ (2001), ‘The Look’ (2003), ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ (2005), and ‘Musical Chairs’ (2011). These roles have established his presence in both film and television. He also appeared in television shows such as ‘Project Runway’ (2008), ‘The Tyra Banks Show’ (2009), and ‘Ugly Betty’ (2010).

More recently, Hedda Lettuce has established a strong presence in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he has been performing for a decade. He currently performs his show ‘Romaine Calm!’ at The Palm Cabaret and hosts ‘Bawdy Bingo’ at La Catrina Cantina. His long-standing career demonstrates his adaptability and continuous engagement with live audiences. His approach emphasizes live audience interaction, ensuring that each show is distinct and responsive to the moment. He maintains a focus on his health and well-being, attributing some of his longevity to his current lifestyle in a tropical climate.
