Born with Caudal Regression Syndrome, Zion Clark has made tremendous strides throughout his wrestling career, achieving what no other average wrestler could; wrestling with no legs. Bringing a unique perspective to the sport of wrestling, the pro athlete also adopted a more courageous personality. Along with being an athlete, Clark has also managed to become an award-winning documentary star in the Netflix Original documentary, Zion.
Born in the foster care system, Clark found his family in Ohio with his mother and his high school wrestling team at Massillon Washington High School. Clark graduated and went on to pursue his wrestling career at Kent State University. In 2018 Netflix produced Zion, an inspiring and gritty documentary about Clark himself. The documentary shines a light on his connection with wrestling, his mother and his coach, who became a father figure to him. The two encouraged each other to have “No Excuses, Be Greater Than”: a motto that Clark now lives by. The documentary garnered many accolades, winning a Sports Emmy, becoming a Grand Prize Winner for the Indy Shorts International Film Festival, and being nominated for the Short Film Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Since then, Clark has been a guest star on the Ellen Degeneres Show, discussing how he helps kids in school around the community with his tough childhood experiences. He has also announced that he has intentions to compete in the 2020 Paralympics as a sprinter and the 2020 Olympics as a wrestler, both of which will be held in the summer of 2021.
