A Night of Studio 54 featured by Vice | MN2S

A Night of Studio 54 at Meltdown Festival was described as “a rare treat” by Vice.

Featured as part of their “Big Night Out” series, MN2S’ A Night of Studio 54 was covered by Vice’s Simon Doherty in their Culture section. The event’s inaugural edition, conceived by MN2S’ Liberty Barrett and chosen by CHIC front-man Nile Rodgers to be featured at this year’s Meltdown Festival, dominated the Southbank Centre’s foyer in August and prompted rave reviews. The Guardian described the event as “ecstatic”, remarking that it “confirms disco’s status as the most formidable and resilient pleasure-delivery system ever conceived by pop music.”

Vice Magazine’s Simon Doherty spoke with Nicky Siano, resident DJ for both the original Studio 54 nightclub and MN2S’ A Night of Studio 54, before enjoying the party himself: “silk hand fans, adorned with floral prints, wafted around like butterflies dancing to edits of Donna Summer, Lipps Inc. and Michael Jackson. The performers undulated, twirled and darted through the room. A woman named Julie was getting a massage from her husband on the dance floor. Having been to Studio 54 in its heyday, she was there for a sharp hit of nostalgia. “I didn’t know what to expect, but it’s amazing, isn’t it?” she said. “It brings back lots of memories. Just like the old days.”
