Talent Profiles: Comedy Stars | MN2S

In our Talent Profiles series, we shine a light on some of the most talented names MN2S has worked with. This week, we’re highlighting the comic talents of four incredible comedians from across the globe.

1. Troy Hawke / Milo McCabe

The newest persona created by comedian Milo McCabe, Troy Hawke, is equally realistic and hilarious. This is no easy task, though; not only must the performer make the character completely credible, the comedy must also be spot-on. Convincing character comedy is incredibly tough to pull off. Fortunately, Troy Hawke is the ideal illustration of how absurd things can become when the comedian correctly balances both sides of the equation! Troy interacts with the 21st century like a person who has been in suspended animation for the past forty years after being homeschooled by a mother who was deeply rooted in the past.

Milo is an expert in character comedy, and his alter ego, Portuguese reality TV star “Philberto,” has delighted crowds at comedy clubs and festivals throughout the world. Milo has also appeared on TV in shows like “Blue Go Mad in Ibiza” (ITV2), “Live at the Electric” (BBC Three), and “Benidorm” (ITV1). Milo’s performances at the Edinburgh Festival have led to two nominations for “Best Show” at the Amused Moose Laughter Awards, as well as for GQ Magazine’s Top 10 Shows Of The Fringe and a Time Out Critic’s Award.

2. Ilana Glazer

Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson co-created the critically acclaimed and immensely successful sitcom Broad City, defying the odds for young female comedians. While attending NYU, Glazer began taking workshops at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in 2006. He was also performing stand-up and improv in local New York venues at the time. She met Abbi Jacobson at Upright Citizen’s Brigade, and the two decided to start their own web series, Broad City, to exhibit their talents in addition to applying to renowned comic groups.

The two launched their series on YouTube from 2009 until 2011 when Glazer graduated from NYU, and they eventually converted it into a live show. Broad City, which had Amy Poehler’s support, had its Comedy Central debut as a full-length sitcom in 2014 and immediately became popular. The irreverent and unrestrained show perfectly conveys the annoyances and humiliations experienced by two twenty-somethings attempting to succeed in New York. In addition, Glazer has appeared in other roles, both with Jacobson and on her own, including the lead in the 2013 Lower East Side Film Festival’s top film, How to Follow Strangers.

3. Dave Chappell

One of America’s foremost stand-up comedians, Dave Chapelle is considered to be one of the very best: just ask Rolling Stone, who ranked him No. 9 in their list of 50 Best Stand Up Comics of All Time. First hitting television screens with the cult sketch comedy series Chapelle’s Show, he now has a $20 million-dollar comedy-special deal with Netflix and is a proud recipient of both Emmy and Grammy Awards. Chappelle travelled to New York at the age of 14 to further his pursuit of his innate ability for making people laugh. He is known for making odd comments and for having excellent comic timing. Chappelle has acted in a number of movies in small but notable parts in addition to stand-up comedians.

Dave Chappelle was named one of the top comedians by “Comedy Central” for being a fearless and adaptable actor-comedian who is well-known for his distinct brand of comedy and guilelessness. His comedy is largely based on the reality of his life, including the fact that he was born black in the nation’s capital. He has constantly refused to change his style of focus from African-American point of view, to make it into a “more acceptable” style. Dave Chappelle gained fame and success on his own terms, also became popular for his cutting social commentary and aggressively satirical style.
