ASKI Welcomes Renowned Artist Omar for Exclusive Black History Month Celebration | MN2S

Special Event Honors Volunteers and Celebrates Sutton’s Older Community Members

ASKI (Advocacy, Support, Knowledge, and Information),  a Croydon-based charity dedicated to social reform and community support, held an exclusive musical performance by the acclaimed British artist Omar

This special event, held in celebration of Black History Month, is set to honor the organization’s Volunteer of the Year and recognize the contributions of 100 older men and women from the Borough of Sutton. MN2S is proud to have facilitated the booking.

Omar, often credited as one of the pioneers of British soul, has a career spanning over three decades. Known for his signature track “There’s Nothing Like This”, Omar has worked with legends such as Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, and Common. His music blends soul, funk, and jazz, creating a unique sound that has earned him international acclaim. As a champion of Black British music, Omar’s work has left an indelible mark on the UK music scene.

ASKI’s history is rooted in serving the most marginalized in the Croydon community. Since its establishment in 2012, the organization has worked tirelessly to address the needs of migrants, refugees, the homeless, individuals with disabilities, neurodivergent people, and young individuals who are not in education or employment. Their work was recently recognized with the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2024, a testament to their impactful efforts.

Taking place on a private basis, this event is exclusively for ASKI members and is not open to the public. Omar, celebrated for his pioneering role in British soul music, will perform a selection of his hits for attendees, creating an unforgettable experience for the community. His performance reflects ASKI’s ongoing commitment to cultural appreciation, inclusivity, and the recognition of both history and the individuals making a difference today.

ASKI was founded by three professionals in Croydon who, through their work in social care, witnessed first-hand the struggles of those on the margins of society. Their focus has been on addressing inequality by supporting vulnerable community members, including older adults, migrants, and individuals with disabilities. By offering advocacy, support, and information, ASKI has transformed countless lives in Croydon and beyond.

The Black History Month celebration is another step in the charity’s mission to uplift and support underrepresented groups, while also honoring the volunteers who play a crucial role in making ASKI’s work possible.
