In an interview with TRENCH, Marcus Nasty discusses the history of UK Funky, and introduces the genre’s new generation of champions.
For years now, Marcus Nasty has been the spiritual figurehead of UK Funky. As he tells TRENCH, it’s a position he takes very seriously. So when he saw a TRENCH article in January asking if it was time for the genre to make a comeback, he reached out to the publication to set the record straight.
The new piece is an enlightening, in-depth interview with Nasty about UK Funky, Bass, Grime, and how different genres become prominent at different times. After the main interview, TRENCH cedes ground to a host of UK Funky DJs and MCs who are carrying the flame. Each of them introduces themselves, and discusses their relationship with the genre.
This interview comes ahead of some major gigs for Marcus Nasty. The DJ has been announced as the headliner B2B with Snøw for DJMag’s 21st Bunker party in North London on April 11th. He’s also topping the bill for UK Funky Fest 2018 in June, on a lineup that includes Mic Man Frost and Crazy Cousinz.
