Sakti Records Founder on Her Latest Release and the Evolution of Her Label’s Sound
With its third release “Magnifique” coming out this week, Farzala’s label Sakti Records continues to develop its identity. We caught up again with the London-based DJ, producer, and label head as she shared her thoughts on the track, her approach to curation, and what’s next for the label. You can listen to Magnifique here:
A Diverse and Evolving Sound
“Each release from the label is meant to be its own thing,” Farzana explains. “My productions are diverse and as I keep evolving, the sound of Sakti will evolve too. There are definitely elements that connect the sound, but I’ll leave that open for interpretation of the listener.”
Creating Magnifique – What Inspired This Track?
Farzala recalls the creative process behind the track clearly:
“I vividly remember making this. I just went with it and it was a real flow-state moment,” she says.
“Sadly there’s no story about me at my wits end trying to create the synth and then losing the sound I made, and then staying up for 24 hours to then try to recreate that sound again…
It was a sunny day, and I was feeling what I was feeling — and Magnifique came out of that.”
Curation Through Feeling
As both a DJ and a producer, Farzala says her approach to curating the label is deeply instinctual:
“The duality is more about a feeling when I’m curating, and that overrides everything really. It has to be a feeling and nothing more.”
Future Artists and Sounds
What kind of artists or sounds is Farzala hoping to bring into the Sakti Records family in the coming year?
“I’m not looking for a specific sound or artist. It really is down to a feeling — when meeting people you want to work with, and also the music you feel compelled to support.”
Visual Identity
The visual side of Sakti Records is rooted in the label’s name:
“The visuals revolve around the meaning of Sakti,” Farzala says. “Keeping it simple is key for me.”
By doing so, she allows the music to speak for itself.
Running a Label
Launching and running Sakti Records has been a fulfilling journey for Farzala:
“Giving life to an idea and going with that is super rewarding,” she says.
“To have your own imprint as an extension of you and your art is a beautiful thing.”
Looking Ahead
In addition to her work with Sakti Records, Farzala is stepping into an exciting new chapter as a DJ. She’ll be playing her debut gig at London’s iconic club Fabric this August.
