Founded earlier this year by dubstep artist FOXT, Rabbit Hole Records is a new label and community for underground electronic music.
FOXT is a dubstep producer and DJ whose sound bridges heavy bass, experimental textures and sonic intensity. Music has been part of his life since childhood, picking up guitar at nine and piano at thirteen and later expanding into DJing and electronic production during college. The label’s mission is to give emerging artists a platform in an increasingly crowded scene, helping their music reach listeners who might otherwise be overlooked. Rabbit Hole Records is gearing up to release its first artist compilation EP, Down The Rabbit Hole Vol. 1, on 10th October, showcasing a range of bass-heavy, experimental electronic sounds. More than a label, it serves as a gathering place for “bass fiends and boundary-breakers”, where every track submitted is heard, and the community continues to grow through Discord and shared creative exploration.
How did you get into music? What is your musical background?
I grew up playing guitar and piano. I started guitar when I was 9 years old and piano when I was 13. Growing up I watched my dad play guitar and music has always been a huge part of my life. It was a way for myself to get away, block out the noise in my life, and just feel the melody like it was taking me on a journey. My parents got me my first MIDI controller when I was in high school, from there I DJ’d parties in college and explored what else EDM had to offer. Now being almost 30, it’s a huge part of my life. However, I love keeping it separate from work. Once a hobby becomes a chore it is no longer fun. I still use the experience to get away.
How long has your label been in operation?
My label hasn’t been in operation that long! I started this idea over the summer and put plans in place to the execute how the label will come to life.

Tell us about your first release – what was special about that one?
My first release was called “The Feeling”. It was a good song for it being my first release. I combined my interests of dubstep, tearout, and techno into one song. I plan to recreate the song some day now that I have more experience and a better understanding of producing.
Tell us about the latest project you’ve released?
I just released our first artist compilation EP on our label. It was a great project that I am extremely proud of the label’s mission. I myself, have started creating more heavy melodic dubstep as I step away from tearout dubstep and explore new sound design.
Could you sum up your label’s philosophy and creative vision?
Our label’s mission and vision is to create a label for up and coming and/or new artists have their music heard. The music scene nowadays is super oversaturated which isn’t a bad thing. But, a ton of great producers and artists don’t even get their music listened to because it is drowned out by so many others. I’m here to help everyone’s music get heard. Getting your name on a label is a huge step in the industry and I believe our label can really help those artists gain more exposure.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking of setting up their own imprint?
It never hurts to try something new! Get some experience with your own music first. Learn how other labels operate and what needs to be done. Create a mission and vision for the label, and then the steps to get there. Also reach out to other smaller labels and see what advice they can give you as you get started. I reached out to several friends about how to get started and what the best steps were as a smaller label that wants to grow like a community.

What are your plans for the rest of the year and beyond?
Release music and get others heard! I want to make sure every artist that signs with us has their music promoted, on playlists, and gets downloads by bigger artists. For FOXT, I have a 17 song project that I am currently planning to release over time.
