This year’s official World Cup song will be performed by Will Smith, Nicky Jam, and Era Istrefi.
The track, slated for a May 25th release ahead of the tournament, has been produced by Diplo. The press is heralding the track as Will Smith’s return to recorded music after an extended period focusing on his movie career. He did, however, dip his toe back into the musical waters last year, giving well-received select performances with DJ Jazzy Jeff.
Era Istrefi, on the other hand, has been lighting up the music scene with her YouTube video for last year’s ‘No I Love Yous (feat. French Montana)’ amassing 6 million views in just two weeks. Other hits from the Kossovan singer include ‘BonBon’ and ‘Redrum’, all of which rocketed up the charts in Europe and dominated YouTube upon release. Also on the as-yet-untitled World Cup song is Nicky Jam, the American singer with a number of huge Latin American hits, including the major J Balvin collaboration ‘X’.
The new song follows in the footsteps of 2014’s ‘We Are One (Ole Ola)’ by Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull, and 2010’s ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’ by Shakira. These two songs were performed at each World Cup’s opening and closing ceremony, respectively, making it likely that Smith, Jam, and Istrefi will play theirs to the Russian crowds at some point during the tournament.
With a group of collaborators popular all over the world, the 2018 World Cup song is sure to be a hit.
