MN2S Artists in Mixmag's Women Who Shaped Dance Music

Legendary vocalists Kym Mazelle, Crystal Waters and Julie McKnight have been featured in Mixmag’s article Celebrating Black History: The Women Who Shaped Dance Music.

Kym Mazelle, Crystal Waters and Julie McKnight have been named three of “the women who shaped dance music” in a new feature by Mixmag, placing them alongside fellow dance luminaries like Diana Ross, Grace Jones, Donna Summer, and Sylvia Robinson.

The Mixmag article has been published for Black History Month as a way of highlighting and celebrating the importance of black artists to dance music culture. An article titled Celebrating Black History: Detroit Techno Icons was also published earlier in February.

In “The Women Who Shaped Dance Music”, Kym Mazelle’s track ‘Taste My Love’ (prod. Marshall Jefferson) is highlighted as an important contribution to the emerging Chicago House scene at the time of its release. Mixmag also praise her latest release: ‘A Place in My Heart’ with Crookers, on Defected Records.

Crystal Waters’ hit ‘Gypsy Woman’ is singled out as the most influential track of her career, though her later hit ‘100% Pure Love’ is recognised too for proving her talent and versatility.

Mixmag picked Julie McKnight’s track ‘Finally’ with Kings of Tomorrow as her most influential track, likening her vocals to those of classic Deep House tunes, whilst acknowledging the track’s importance to New York Garage.

Book Julie McKnight, Crystal Waters or Kym Mazelle to bring these women who shaped dance music to your venue.
