Omi’s massive new single ‘Hula Hoop’ is following in the footsteps of his record-breaking smash ‘Cheerleader’ by blowing up across the globe.
The track has clocked up over 47m streams on Spotify, reaching #26 on their Global Chart, and the video has had over 10m views on YouTube. It’s achieved Gold sales status in Sweden and Norway, hit #2 on Germany’s iTunes Chart, and has been the most added track across Canadian radio stations (and second most added in Australia). Meanwhile it has received accolades like BBC Radio 1’s Track Of The Day and is receiving major radio support across the world.
“If you loved OMI’s first breakout single, you’ll almost certainly love this one, too” said Popcrush of the new single, while Complex described it as “sun-soaked vocals meet a piercing saxophone fated to coax you deeper into his balmy summer sounds.”
Speaking on his breakout success to Idolator earlier this year, Omi said: “I can’t go to the grocery store anymore! You know the saying, ‘A man is never a king in his own country?’ Well, Jamaica has proven that theory wrong.”
His album ‘Me 4 U’ is also gaining traction which he also spoke to them about in the run-up to its completion. “I’m always working in the studio — it’s not just about an album for me. I confuse people who are selecting the album from it because I’m always in there. You’re going to have a follow-up single, then ultimately an album. I’m working with Clifton ‘Specialist’ [Dillon] and Salaam Remi. It’s a cool collaboration right there already. And it’s cool because it’s music, there’s no boundaries.”
