UK singer Kyla continues her string of great features with ‘Should’ve Been Me’ with Naughty Boy and Popcaan.
After the smash hit Drake & Wizkid collaboration ‘One Dance’ earlier in 2016, Kyla keeps the music coming with another dancehall-influenced track. ‘Should’ve Been Me’ by Naughty Boy feat. Popcaan and Kyla was released this week on Virgin Records, and the track has already racked up 11,000 plays on Soundcloud alone.
The track showcases Kyla’s vocal talent once again on a beat produced by the UK’s Naughty Boy. One Dance became one of 2016’s biggest tracks, topping the charts in the US, UK and Drake’s native Canada, and gaining hours of radio airplay on stations worldwide.
‘Should’ve Been Me’s Popcaan also collaborated with Drake for his VIEWS album, appearing on the Caribbean-flavoured ‘Controlla’.
So far it is too early to tell if Kyla’s latest collaboration will reach the commercial heights of ‘One Dance’, but Kyla’s star is on the rise nonetheless. An interview with Pitchfork earlier this year, Kyla discussed the new music she is working on in the studio, to be released, she says “when I am ready”. When the time comes, no doubt Kyla will have even more hits on her hands. And with support from the likes of Drake, she should have no trouble getting more tunes on the radio.
