Hip-hop pioneer, global musical icon and three-time Grammy Award Winner DJ Jazzy Jeff caught up with I Am Hip Hop magazine ahead of his upcoming UK show at Electric Brixton.
The revered DJ and producer will bring “DJ Jazzy Jeff’s House Party” to Electric Brixton on Friday 12th April, with support from R&B phenomenon NAO.
Speaking with I Am Hip Hop Magazine, DJ Jazzy Jeff shared his love for Stormzy and Skepta, revealing that UK audiences are always surprised when he includes tracks from British artists in his DJ sets. He says “Whenever I play UK music on my list, the crowd always goes crazy. People are always surprised, thinking ‘How does he know?'”.

Known for starring in the legendary television series Fresh Prince of Bel Air alongside Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff and his co-star are celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of their first Grammy win this year, awarded for the performance of their debut single ‘Parents Just Don’t Understand’, an achievement that launched the pair’s hugely successful careers in entertainment.
These turntables weren’t made to do what we wanted to do with them, so it was up to us to try something new.
The DJ also spoke about his innovative performance techniques and discussed working on Hollywood blockbuster Straight Outta Compton with hip-hop legend Dr. Dre: “I’ve known Dr. Dre for many years and he called me and asked me specifically to add the scratching for the movie. He wanted to have someone who was really there at the time, and said he knew I was one of those.”
