Britain is blessed with scores of prominent female athletes who take representing their respective disciplines very seriously and regularly take time to inspire people from their communities to get active. Not satisfied with just being good role models on paper, these women also attend events to motivate people with stories of their own successes. Connecting with and inspiring others is part of the job now and all of the female athletes on the MN2S roster revel in appearing as after dinner speakers at all manner of events.
Many celebrity booking agencies and talent agencies can establish connections with these athletes, and help you to find the perfect figure for your event. Sometimes you may approach a celebrity booking agency with a certain sportswoman in mind, however if this is not the case, a number of talent agencies can suggest a passionate athlete who will really connect with your guests or delegates. For a number of corporate events, a sportswoman represents just the kind of transferable and core traits that are equally useful in the work place – determination, drive and discipline are just as integral to the sportswoman as they are to the businesswoman or man. As the stars reveal the challenges and obstacles they struggled to overcome to forge such a successful career, they will keep your audience hanging on their every word and undoubtedly provide your event with a strong and resounding motivational element.
The achievements of many sportswomen are often wide ranging and confirm the dedication and passion they show in other areas of their lives – whether through business ventures post retirement, advocacy of charitable causes or involvement with youth programmes and teams. MN2S represents three such women, who have established themselves as not only titans of their respective sports, but also invaluable members of society.
Sally Gunnell is a former track and field athlete who has been awarded both an MBE and OBE for her extensive services to sport. Gunnell is a memorable and celebrated figure for her exceptional skill, a skill that has earned her Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth titles. Upon retirement, Gunnell moved seamlessly into broadcasting, however she is now involved in the businesses that she runs alongside her husband. Gunnell’s company champions health, fitness and well-being in the workplace, and works closely with businesses to achieve this goal. In addition to this venture, she is also a popular and eloquent motivational speaker who is in high demand for corporate events.
Christine Ohuruogu, MBE is a current World and former Olympic and Commonwealth Champion. A favourite in British athletics, Ohuruogu won herself even more fans following her silver medal winning performance in the 2012 home Olympics. While Ohuruogu continues to excel on the international stage, she also remains active in her local area, and is still a member of her local sporting club. Her series of books, “Camp Gold”, about a young girl who is a budding athlete, aim to inspire young girls to get involved in sport.
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, DDE, DL is one of the most inspiration figures in British sport. Born with spina bifida, Grey-Thompson has always been a wheelchair user. At the end of her Paralympic career, Grey-Thompson had won a total of 16 medals and an additional 30 world records. Following a successful career in broadcasting, Grey-Thompson remains the patron of numerous charities, such as Sportsaid Foundation, Sportsleaders UK, the Tees Wheelyboats Club and the Wembley Stadium Legacy Trust.
