The south bank’s favourite purple Underbelly returns, celebrating its 10th birthday.
This year sees the return of the hugely popular Underbelly Festival, to London’s Southbank. The festival is now a decade old, and each summer brings live entertainment to a pop-up venue in the heart of London. Much of the line-up focuses on comedy, but audiences can also see live circus acts, cabaret acts and a variety of family-friendly entertainment.
Four Comedians To Help Your Event Go With A Chortle
It’s an affordable way to see some of the biggest names in comedy, too, with most tickets coming in at well under £20. Appearances at the festival have helped to kick-start the careers of some of the most famous faces on the UK comedy scene today.
The festival directors, Ed Bartlam and Charlie Woods, said: “It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years since we first landed on the Southbank but we’re celebrating in style with our most exciting programme yet.“As well as providing a range of brilliant comedy, cabaret, family entertainment, food, drink and bars, our headline shows all demonstrate the richness and variety of circus performance all around the world and it’s amazing to be hosting them mere yards away from the birthplace of circus 250 years ago.”
How Soon is too Soon to Start Planning an Event?
One of our most interesting comedians here at MN2S celebrity talent agency is Nina Conti, a celebrated ventriloquist as well as a side-splitting comedian. Her ventriloquism sets her apart from the crowd, and makes her comedy far from run of the mill.
The first puppet to join Conti on stage was ‘Monkey’, a rude primate puppet who spends Conti’s act as the cheeky counterpoint to her polished niceness. She said of Monkey, ““He’s unaccountable. His instincts are very raw. I never know what’s going to come out of his mouth. For instance, he allows me to be very rude, sometimes rather lewd, with other women, something I would never be in real life.”
In recent years, Conti has also introduced ‘Granny’, a character she based on her own grandmother, and a ventriloquist’s mask. She often asks audience members to wear the mask, then puts them in awkward situations by ‘making’ them say things they otherwise wouldn’t.
