Marshall Jefferson's Kickstarter for binaural LP | News | MN2S

House music legend Marshall Jefferson has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund an album recorded in binaural audio.

The album was recorded with his long-time collaborator Sleezy D, the mysterious producer who he recorded some of the earliest acid house tracks with. “The whole album is going to be binaural which means it’s not just left and right – you can hear stuff above you, below you, behind you, in front of you” he explains in his Kickstarter video [below]. “It’s never been done before as far as I know in dance music. We’re trying to do a step forward here, move to the next thing. Maybe leave stereo behind, ‘cos we want to hear house music all around us.”

He’s aiming to fund a triple or quadruple vinyl album for the release, with any funds above the target destined for creating videos for the album’s tracks. “We could put it out on digital download right now, but I want it to have a whole presentation for the album – because I think it’s special.” Guest producers on the record include Full Intention, David Tort, K-Alexi, Tyree Cooper, Peter Brown and Rhythm Masters.

Rewards for backers include a pre-release rough master digital copy of ‘Get Rough’, one of the tracks from the album, plus ‘Freakin 909 / Sleezy D’ coffee mugs and t-shirts – and the top pledger will receive the one-of-a-kind ‘Househead’ binaural microphone that Jefferson built himself to record parts for the album with.
