Introducing: Majesty | Features | MN2S

New MN2S signing Majesty has been blazing a trail through the underground house and techno scene in recent years via releases on Madtech Records, King Street Sounds, Vintage Music Label and his own Audiowhore Records imprint. His low slung, bass-heavy rolling grooves have seen him play at Ministry Of Sound, XOYO and Electric Brixton and overseas in Croatia and Ibiza. We asked him to give us the lowdown on his career so far and his aspirations for the future.

How do you describe your sound?

I would describe it as a very dark dubby style which is a fusion of low frequency bass sounds mixed with a touch of ‘80s electro music.

How did you first get started in music?

I first came into contact with it via one of my first jobs in my local record shop; from there on the desire to become more involved in music just enhanced.

Who were your early inspirations?

My early inspirations were from two similar but very different DJs. Firstly, it would be DJ EZ and secondly Karizma (Kaytronik).

When did you play your first gig? Was it a hit or a miss?

My first ever gig was at a friend’s birthday party. I’d only been mixing for about three months at that point so the crowd loved it but the mixes were absolutely horrid!

How did you get your first big break?

I would have to say it was on a track called ‘I Can Tell’ – mainly because it was the first track I had ever produced. I put the track up on Soundcloud to get some feedback to see if I was on the right path. Within 24 hours it had over 10,000 plays and had an offer from German label Rote Liebe to release the track, who had previously released tracks for tINI, DJ Hell and SIS.

What has been the hardest lesson you’ve had to learn along the way?

That everything takes time and there is no quick route to success. Yes, the odd person has made one track and gone on to superstardom; but on the whole it’s a 3/4 year plan and it’s hard staying true and focused on the goal.

What do you attribute your success to?

Hard work, pre-planning and a lot of late nights.

Who are the people who have been instrumental in helping you get where you are today?

My business partner who I run Audiowhore and Siesta Day Party with. Dave Alcock my agent at MN2S and my family and friends.

What are your ultimate goals in the music industry?

My ultimate goal would be to be number one in the RA DJ poll or at the very least in the Top 50.

Who would you love to collaborate with?

If I could do a collaboration with anyone, it would be in no particular order Konrad Black, Maya Jane Coles and Jamie Jones.

What are your 2015 plans?

Plans for 2015 are to take Audiowhore regional. I’m already involved in doing a festival and taking it back to Sankeys Ibzia again this year, plus tons and tons of remixes and releases from the likes of VIVa Music, Madtech and Nervous Records to name a few. So it will be a busy year for me.
