DJ Jazzy Jeff, born Jeffrey Allen Townes, is a renowned American DJ and producer who gained fame as one half of the iconic hip hop duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, alongside Will Smith. The duo made history by winning the first-ever Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for their hit “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” and their classic track “Summertime” further solidified their legacy, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning them a second Grammy. Townes’ innovative techniques, particularly the transformer scratch, have left a lasting impact on the hip hop community.
