Alessandro Renato Rodolfo Lindblad, professionally known as Alesso, was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on July 7, 1991. He began his musical journey by playing piano at age 7 and later developed an interest in electronic dance music (EDM) at 16. His career gained initial momentum in 2010 with the release of his “Alesso EP.” A pivotal moment occurred in early 2011 when Sebastian Ingrosso of Swedish House Mafia contacted Alesso, becoming a mentor who introduced him to DJing and assisted with track production. This collaboration led to the 2011 track “Calling,” which achieved success on the Beatport charts. Alesso’s 2011 remix of Nadia Ali’s “Pressure” also gained significant attention, topping The Hype Machine and becoming one of the most played EDM tracks of the year. By the end of 2011, Alesso was ranked 70th on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs list, marking a rapid ascent in his career.
Throughout 2012, Alesso’s profile continued to rise, with MTV naming him one of the “EDM Rookies to Watch.” He performed an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 and played for large audiences, including 60,000 attendees at Creamfields. He also toured with Madonna on her MDNA World Tour for selected European dates. In 2012, he released the original mix “Years” featuring Matthew Koma, which performed well in the United Kingdom, and climbed to 20th on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs list. The following year, 2013, saw him perform at major music festivals such as Coachella, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, and Tomorrowland. His remix of OneRepublic’s “If I Lose Myself” was nominated for a Grammy and accumulated nearly a million listens on SoundCloud. In a collaboration with Calvin Harris and Hurts, Alesso released “Under Control,” which garnered 88 million views. He reached his highest ranking on DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs list at number 13 in 2013.
In July 2014, Alesso signed with Def Jam Recordings, becoming only the second EDM producer to join the label. He debuted the track “Tear the Roof Up” which was featured as a “Future Exclusive” by Zane Lowe, and its music video premiered exclusively on Snapchat. He then embarked on his “Heroes Tour,” named after his single “Heroes (We Could Be)” featuring Tove Lo. This tour also supported the global charity Chime for Change, raising over $50,000 for women’s empowerment. His debut full-length album, “Forever,” was released on May 22, 2015, via Def Jam Recordings. In recent years, Alesso has continued to work with various artists and perform globally, including a performance at the 2023 UEFA Champions League final, further cementing his status in electronic music.
