Alia, a Brussels-based DJ and electronic music producer, embarked on her musical journey by initially playing records for personal enjoyment. This developed into a career within the Brussels nightlife scene. Over the past several years, she has established herself as a significant figure in club music within her home country, curating line-ups for venues such as Funke in Ghent. Her deep appreciation for music stemmed from her upbringing in Leuven, where her parents exposed her to jazz, soul, and funk. These genres continue to influence her sets, which also incorporate dub, techno, and broken beat elements. This early exposure fostered a lifelong connection to music, which she describes as her family’s shared language.
In 2024, Alia further expanded her career by launching her own label, Artisjok Records. This initiative aims to provide a platform for talented friends whose music she believes deserves broader recognition, counteracting potential gatekeeping within the music industry. Her commitment to supporting other artists is also demonstrated through curating compilations focused on emerging talent. Alia has been a consistent presence at the Horst festival in Brussels, having attended since age 14 and performing there annually since 2018. This festival has been a formative experience in her dance music education. Alia is also the founder of the Feminine Medicine™ Project, which seeks to bring women together to create impactful projects.
Her career trajectory highlights a progression from personal interest to professional engagement, marked by artistic development and community involvement. Alia’s work consistently emphasizes discovery and storytelling through her sets, which she describes as aiming to surprise and take the audience on an unexpected journey. This approach prioritizes the overall experience over technical perfection. She has also engaged in various entrepreneurial endeavors, including serving as an executive and entrepreneurial coach for women leaders, a somatic practitioner, and an author and speaker.
