Alexandra Margo Sholler, known professionally as Alison Wonderland, was born on September 27, 1986, in Sydney, Australia. She began her musical journey as a classical cellist with the Sydney Youth Opera and later played bass guitar in indie rock bands. Her introduction to electronic dance music at a club in Sydney led her to pursue DJing and production, culminating in the launch of the ‘Alison Wonderland’ project in 2009. From the outset, she has been known for her distinct style, incorporating cello breakdowns with trap, bass beats, and futuristic soundscapes.
Alison Wonderland gained international recognition for her innovative DJing and production, including remixes for artists like Justin Bieber. Her career progressed with the release of her debut extended play, “Calm Down,” in 2014, and her first studio album, “Run,” in 2015. “Run” reached No. 6 on the ARIA Albums Chart and No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart. Her performance at Coachella marked a significant milestone, where she later became the highest-billed female DJ in the festival’s history. She earned critical acclaim as Billboard’s Breakout Artist of the Year and the Electronic Music Awards’ Best New Artist.
Her second album, “Awake,” released in 2018, also topped the Billboard Dance/Electronic Album chart and featured collaborations with artists such as Trippie Redd and Chief Keef. She extensively toured in the US, Europe, and Australasia, including sold-out shows at venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre. In 2022, she released her third album, “Loner,” which debuted at No. 9 in Australia and No. 3 on the US Dance/Electronic Album chart. A vocal advocate for mental health, Alison Wonderland often integrates her personal experiences into her music, transforming them into themes of hope and perseverance. She welcomed her first child, a son named Max, in June 2023, and later married filmmaker Ti West.
