About

The Knocks, an electronic music duo from New York City, formed in 2008 with members Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “JPatt” Patterson. Their name originated from neighbors knocking on their door due to loud music during their early days. Before concentrating on original music and remixes, they produced tracks for artists including Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Mobb Deep, Nicki Minaj, Marina, Flo Rida, Sky Ferreira, Theophilus London, and Ellie Goulding. In 2010, NME magazine recognized The Knocks as one of the “20 hottest producers in music.” Their 2010 single “Make It Better” was featured in a national Corona campaign, and “Dancing with the DJ” gained online popularity, leading to their debut EP, “Magic,” in 2011.

Over the years, The Knocks have released four full-length albums: “HISTORY,” “New York Narcotic,” “55,” and “Revelation,” along with five EPs: “Melody & Silence,” “Summer Series: 2019,” “TESTIFY,” “So Classic,” and “Magic.” Their singles, “Classic” featuring Powers, “Ride or Die” featuring Foster the People, and “Bodies” featuring MUNA, have achieved notable success. They have collaborated with various artists, including Sofi Tukker on “Best Friend,” Purple Disco Machine on “Fireworks,” and ODESZA on “Love Letter,” a collaboration that earned them two GRAMMY nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album of the Year and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. Their tracks have also been featured in the EA Sports FIFA video game series multiple times, including “We Got U” with Lemaitre (2017), “Awa Ni” with Kah-lo (2020), “Best Friend” (2018), “Walking on Water” with Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (2023), and “People” with Kungs (2023), making them the only artists with two songs on the FIFA 23 Edition soundtrack.

In addition to their music career, Ben Ruttner established HeavyRoc Music in 2007, a record label responsible for launching the careers of artists like Sofi Tukker, Blu DeTiger, and St. Lucia. The label received a GRAMMY nomination in 2017 for Best Dance Recording for the song “Drinkee.” In 2019, HeavyRoc Music expanded into Black Clay through a partnership with Warner Music Group, releasing projects for artists such as Holiday87 (Ruttner’s solo project), James Patterson, and Richie Quake. The duo also engaged in side projects, including Amelia Airhorn with Skylar Spence, focusing on nu-disco, and The Mary Nixons, a punk-infused band with Mat Zo, demonstrating their diverse musical interests and production capabilities.
