Universally recognised as one of most influential European disco producers of the 1970s and 1980s, Cerrone is an award-winning French disco drummer, composer and record producer, famous for his spectacular live performances and concerts. Over an incredible career that’s seen the release of 35 albums, Cerrone has sold over 30 million records around the world, collaborated with the likes of Nile Rodgers, Toto, Jocelyn Brown, Axelle Red and La Toya Jackson. Artists including Bob Sinclair, the Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C. have all sampled his music for their own tracks. His best-loved single, ‘Love in C Minor’ sold over 3 million copies, peaking at No 3 in the charts.
Cerrone was born in Paris in 1952 and became orchestra leader at a Parisian club while still in his teens. In the early 1970s he began to work alongside French producer Barclay before releasing his 1976 debut album Love in C Minor. The lead single and title track soared into the US charts on its release and stayed in European charts for over two months.
Follow-up album Supernature merged synthesizers with symphonic orchestrations, going on to sell eight million copies and confirm Cerrone’s status as one of the most influential disco artists in Europe. His talent was recognised by the industry when he won six awards, including Disco Artist of the Year at the 1978 Billboard Disco Forum.
In a career spanning over four decades, Cerrone has continued to release countless classic albums whilst impressing audiences worldwide with his spectacular live performances: he has wowed 800,000 spectators at Tokyo Harbour in 1991, and recreated a colossal discotheque in Central Park to celebrate 30 years of dance music alongside CHIC’s Nile Rodgers.
