Emma Louise Lobb, born on July 16, 1991, in Cairns, Queensland, Australia, displayed an early aptitude for music. She received her first guitar at the age of six and began composing serious songs in her mid-teens. Her talent was recognized at the 2007 Queensland Music Awards, where she won Best Secondary School Song and the People’s Choice Award for her ballad “Kim’s Song” which gained initial traction on MySpace. In 2008, she independently released her five-track extended play, ”Autumn Tongues”, recorded at Pegasus Studios in Cairns. Relocating to Brisbane in early 2010, she initially pursued a career in events management while continuing to develop her musical craft.
In April 2011, Emma Louise released her EP ”Full Hearts & Empty Rooms”, featuring the single “Jungle.” This track garnered significant airplay on Australia’s national youth radio station, Triple J, and the EP itself reached the top 100 on the ARIA Singles Chart. That same year, she toured as a supporting act for Boy & Bear and was nominated for the 2011 J Award in the Unearthed talent contest. In 2013, her debut studio album, ”Vs Head vs Heart”, peaked at number 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart, earning her a nomination for Best Female Artist at the ARIA Music Awards. The album’s success was amplified when German DJ Wankelmut remixed “Jungle” into “My Head Is a Jungle,” which achieved double platinum status in Italy and reached the top 30 in Germany. This track was also prominently featured in Yves Saint Laurent’s worldwide advertising campaign for Black Opium perfume in 2014.
Emma Louise continued her career progression in 2014 by collaborating with Australian electronic duo Flight Facilities on their single “Two Bodies,” which reached the ARIA top 100. In 2015, she served as the opening act for Sam Smith’s “In the Lonely Hour Tour” in Oceania, and later that year, she signed with Liberation Music. Her second solo album, ”Supercry”, released in July 2016, reached number 14 on the ARIA Charts. In 2018, she released her third studio album, ”Lilac Everything: A Project by Emma Louise”. A significant recent development is her collaborative album, ”Dumb”, with Grammy-winning artist Flume, which was released in August 2025 following their earlier collaborations on tracks like “Hollow” from Flume’s 2022 album ”Palaces”. Emma Louise married Canadian musician Tobias Jesso Jr. in January 2019.
