G Jones

Gregory Jones, known professionally as G Jones, was born on December 16, 1991, in Santa Cruz, California. His early musical interests were rooted in alternative rock, and he initially aspired to be a songwriter and band member. While still in his early teens, he began recording himself playing guitar and drums, using GarageBand to layer tracks. His exposure to electronic artists like Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers through Napster led him to explore electronic music production. He developed an interest in experimental music, drawing inspiration from pioneers such as Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, and later gravitated towards dubstep around 2008. Jones started using Ableton Live 6 around age 15 or 16, honing his production skills by watching online tutorials. He released his first tracks under the name ‘Grizzly-J’ in 2011 with the EP *Let’s Party*.

In 2012, Jones adopted the moniker G Jones and released the *Mirage* EP on Saturate!Records. He followed this with two EPs in 2013, *Transmissions* and *Eyes*, and *Ring the Alarm* in 2014, which included collaborations with artists like Minnesota. A significant turning point occurred in 2015 when DJ Shadow discovered his music, leading to the formation of the duo Nite School Klik. They released singles “Posse” and “Nice Nightmares” under Shadow’s Liquid Amber label, with Shadow praising Jones’s sound design capabilities. That same year, Jones collaborated with Bassnectar on “The Mystery Spot” for the album *Into the Sun* and released the *Mind* EP with Bleep Bloop. His collaborations with Eprom began in 2016 with the track “Warrior” and continued with the *Acid Disk* EP in 2017. He also contributed to Bassnectar’s *Reflective* and *Reflective – Part 2* EPs with “Underground” and “Chromatek” in 2017.

Jones’s commercial breakthrough was the 2018 album *The Ineffable Truth*, which received critical acclaim and was ranked 5th on Billboard’s “Top 10 Best Dance/Electronic Albums of 2018.” The album showcased his evolving sound, combining familiar elements with more conceptual and technical works. Following this, he released the *Tangential Zones* EP in 2019, which served as an epilogue to *The Ineffable Truth*. In 2022, he released *Illusory Tracks* and further collaborations with Eprom, including *Acid Disk 2* and the mixtape *G Jones & Eprom Present: Disk Doctors*. His sophomore album, *Paths*, released in 2023, continued his experimental approach while offering a more accessible sound. In 2025, G Jones collaborated with Skrillex on the song “Druids” for the LP “F*CK U SKRILLEX YOU THINK UR ANDY WARHOL BUT UR NOT!! <3."
