Julian Fernando Casablancas was born on August 23, 1978, in New York City. His father, John Casablancas, founded Elite Model Management, and his mother, Jeanette Christiansen, was a former Miss Denmark and artist. His musical journey was significantly influenced by his stepfather, Sam Adoquei, who introduced him to bands like The Doors. Casablancas met future Strokes bassist Nikolai Fraiture at age six. He later attended Dwight School in Manhattan, where he connected with guitarist Nick Valensi and drummer Fab Moretti, forming the core of The Strokes in 1998 with Albert Hammond Jr. joining shortly after.
Under Casablancas’s primary songwriting and creative direction, The Strokes achieved critical acclaim with their debut album, “Is This It,” positioning them as a significant garage rock revival band in the early 2000s. Subsequent albums, “Room on Fire” (2003) and “First Impressions of Earth” (2005), solidified their influence.
