The indie electronic duo Matt and Kim achieved a significant breakthrough with their second album, Grand, released on Fader Label in January 2009. The album featured the lead single ‘Daylight,’ which earned RIAA gold certification and was widely featured in commercials for brands like Mars Bars and Bacardi, as well as various TV shows and video games. Its music video for ‘Lessons Learned’ notably earned the Breakthrough Video Award at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Comprised of Matt Johnson (vocals/keyboards) and Kim Schifino (drums), the duo formed in Brooklyn, New York City, in 2004, quickly gaining recognition for high-energy performances in lofts and small venues.
Their extensive touring schedule also included a performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in 2013, solidifying their presence on the global music scene. Matt and Kim continued to evolve their sound, releasing their fifth studio album, New Glow, in April 2015. This was followed by the EP We Were the Weirdos in 2016, recorded during their appearance at Coachella that year. After a temporary hiatus due to an ACL injury sustained by Schifino, the duo made a robust return with their sixth studio album, Almost Everyday, released in May 2018.
This latest venture highlights their ongoing commitment to innovation and artistic exploration.
