Aera, known professionally as Ralf Schmidt, is a Berlin-based DJ and electronic music producer recognized for his contributions to the house and techno music scenes. After launching his professional music career in the mid-2000s, Aera established a distinct organic approach to production, characterized by melodic soundscapes and intricate rhythms. His early releases included ‘Angel Of The A7’ in 2006 and ‘Deeds’ in 2007, both collaborations with Till Von Sein on Trenton Records. Aera continued to cultivate his sound, incorporating elements of house, techno, and experimental electronica, and further solidified his presence with the founding of his own label, Aleph Music.
His second full-length album, The Sound Path, was released on Permanent Vacation in 2018, further showcasing his evolving melodic and intricate production style. A significant career milestone came in 2020 with the launch of his second record label, Applied Magic. This new venture became a platform for his innovative productions, including ‘Ode To An Empty Dancefloor’ in 2020 and the ‘Applied Magic 007’ EP in 2021, as well as ‘Jack Leather / Devil’s Gap’ in the same year. Concurrently, Aera continued his work with Innervisions, releasing the ‘Prana EP’ in 2020.
In 2022, he unveiled Versions, a nine-track digital album on Innervisions that presented a new mix concept, reinforcing his reputation for pushing creative boundaries within the electronic music landscape. Most recently, Aera released ‘Y.e.a.h. / It Is What It Is,’ a collaboration with Mehill on Innervisions in 2024. Through a consistent output of original productions, label curation, and impactful collaborations, Aera remains a highly respected and sought-after figure within the global electronic music community, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to innovative sound design and production.
