Underscores, known for her innovative approach to electronic, pop, and rock genres, began establishing her distinctive sound in 2013 by releasing dubstep music on SoundCloud. Her talent gained early industry recognition in 2016 when she placed second in the prestigious Monstercat Mix Contest. Transitioning to lyrical songwriting, Underscores released her jazz-EDM project EP ‘Skin Purifying Treatment’ in 2018, followed by ‘We Never Got Strawberry Cake’ in 2019 and ‘Character Development!’ in 2020. Her debut album, ‘Fishmonger,’ released in March 2021, marked a significant breakthrough.
In early 2022, Underscores embarked on her first headlining mini-tour from February to March, solidifying her presence as a live performer. That summer, she made her major festival debut at Lollapalooza in July 2022 and was featured in Discord’s mini-documentary ‘Discord Scenes: Underground Pop Music,’ highlighting her influence in the underground music scene. The ‘Fishmonger’ era officially concluded in January 2023 with the release of the track ‘Count of Three (You Can Eat $#@!).’ Building on this momentum, Underscores announced her highly anticipated second album, ‘Wallsocket,’ which was released on September 22, 2023, via the acclaimed Mom + Pop record label. Promoted with multiple singles and an immersive alternate reality game, the concept album delves into themes of gun violence, trans identity, and corporatization, delivered through a rich blend of pop, rock, folk, and country styles.
She supported the album with an extensive North American and European Hometown Tour in 2023. Beyond her solo work, Underscores is also an active member of the experimental electronic collective Six Impala and the bedroom pop band Papaya & Friends.
