About

Hector Romero began his DJ career at a young age in 1983, when he was 13 years old, playing a mix of Latin, House, and Hip Hop at Bronx block parties, earning him the nickname ‘Baby Hec’ Romero. His early career included residencies at notable Latin dance clubs such as La Mirage and street clubs like Devils Nest, where he established his presence in the burgeoning New York City nightlife scene. He subsequently played at legendary underground venues including Save the Robots, The Red Zone, Palladium, and The Roxy. This early exposure provided a foundation for his long-standing career in music.

In 1994, Judy Weinstein recruited Hector Romero to Def Mix Productions, where he contributed to the establishment of Definity Records, an imprint under Weinstein and David Morales. Romero, demonstrating a preference for the business aspects of music over remixing or production, took on roles in A&R and business management. Under Weinstein’s mentorship, he developed skills in business management, leading to his appointment as Label Manager for Definity Records. This period marked a significant shift in his career, broadening his involvement in the music industry beyond DJing.

Romero’s career progression included becoming a participating partner in Satoshi Tomiie’s SAW.RECORDINGS. His business acumen and experience as a label manager, coupled with his A&R and negotiation abilities, were instrumental in the development of SAW.RECORDINGS. He continued to maintain an active DJ schedule, performing at international clubs such as Filter 14 in NYC, Stereo in Montreal, and Locomia in Portugal, and participating in the Def Mix Tours, including a world tour in Spring through Fall 2002. He has also produced successful compilations, including “Soulful House Journey” for King Street and “Weaving Genres” for Nervous Records, which featured his own production, “Dancing.” Additionally, he remixed David Morales’s “Stay” for Ultra Records in 2012, further solidifying his diverse contributions to the house music scene.
