112, pronounced “one-twelve,” is an American R&B group originating from Atlanta, Georgia, established in 1993. The initial lineup, consisting of Daron Jones, Michael Keith, and Reginald Finley, expanded to include Aldon Lagon and Marvin Scandrick during their high school years. Performing as Forte, the group gained recognition through talent shows, churches, and schools in Atlanta. Their talent was noticed by record production duo Tim & Bob, who began developing the group, leading to an audition for Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. Impressing Combs, along with Bad Boy producer Chucky Thompson and artist Faith Evans, secured them a signing with Bad Boy Records, an imprint of Arista Records. They subsequently changed their name to 112, inspired by the nightclub where they first auditioned for Combs.

The group’s eponymous debut album, “112,” released in 1996, achieved double-platinum status, featuring hit singles “Only You” and “Cupid,” both reaching high positions on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B charts. A significant milestone occurred in 1997 when 112, alongside Faith Evans, guest-performed on Puff Daddy’s single “I’ll Be Missing You.” This track not only earned a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group but also became the first hip-hop song to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, “Room 112” (1998), continued their success with singles like “Love Me” and “Anywhere,” achieving double-platinum sales by 2002. They further toured with high-profile artists such as Whitney Houston and Janet Jackson, cementing their presence in the R&B landscape.

In 2001, their third album, “Part III,” delivered the hit “It’s Over Now” and the Grammy-nominated “Peaches & Cream,” showcasing continued commercial and critical acclaim. Following creative differences, 112 departed from Bad Boy Records in 2002, signing with Def Soul, an imprint of Def Jam. They released “Hot & Wet” (2003) and “Pleasure & Pain” (2005), with the latter achieving platinum status. After a period of individual solo projects and a brief hiatus, the group reunited and released their sixth studio album, “Q, Mike, Slim, Daron,” in 2017. In 2020, 112 released new music, including the single “Spend It All” and the EP “Forever,” and planned a 30th-anniversary “Room 112 Tour” from November 2025 to February 2026, highlighting their enduring impact in the R&B genre.
