Key Glock has established himself as a prominent rapper, songwriter, and record producer, known for his consistent output and strong independent artistic vision.
Key Glock signed with Republic Records, a major label, while also remaining under Young Dolph's Paper Route Empire label. This partnership allows for broader distribution and promotional reach for his music, notably with the announcement of his new album 'Glockaveli'.
Key Glock launched his own clothing line, expanding his brand beyond music into fashion.
Markeyvius LaShun Cathey, known professionally as Key Glock, was born on August 3, 1997, in South Memphis, Tennessee. His early life involved challenges, including his mother’s incarceration for 15 years and a father who was not consistently present. He was primarily raised by his grandmother and aunt. At the age of 18, he faced aggravated assault charges related to a shooting incident. Throughout these experiences, music served as a significant outlet for him. He developed an interest in hip hop, listening to artists such as Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, and Three 6 Mafia, with Project Pat being a major influence.
Key Glock began his career by releasing his debut mixtape, “Whole Lotta Errthang,” in 2016. The following year, his cousin, Young Dolph, signed him to Paper Route Empire. Under this label, he released his second mixtape, “Glock Season,” on June 16, 2017. His collaborative work gained further traction with the album “Dum and Dummer” alongside Young Dolph, which reached number eight on the Billboard 200. The track “Major” featuring Key Glock also charted on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. He embarked on a European tour with Young Dolph, including stops in Manchester and London, and later co-led the “No Rules” Tour in 2020. On January 31, 2020, he released his debut studio album, “Yellow Tape,” which debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200 and later achieved Gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
His career continued its upward trajectory with the release of his sixth mixtape, “Son of a Gun,” in May 2020, notable for its lack of features. In March 2021, he and Young Dolph released their second collaborative album, “Dum and Dummer 2.” Key Glock’s second studio album, “Yellow Tape 2,” released in November 2021, reached number seven on the Billboard 200 and featured the multi-platinum certified single “Ambition for Cash.” Following Young Dolph’s passing, Key Glock released “Proud” in January 2022 as a tribute, which marked his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. His third studio album, “Glockoma 2,” released in February 2023, included the song “Let’s Go,” his second track to enter the Billboard Hot 100. On March 13, 2025, Key Glock signed with Republic Records, and his fourth studio album, “Glockaveli,” was released on May 2, 2025.
