Lady Leshurr

Melesha Katrina O’Garro, known professionally as Lady Leshurr, was born on December 15, 1987, in Kingshurst, Solihull, England, to Kittitian parents. Her musical journey began at an early age, expressing an interest in poetry and writing by six and releasing her first mixtape at fourteen. She developed her unique style, blending hip hop, grime, and dancehall, ultimately aiming for a broad audience through music. Her early career included an acting role in Vertigo Films’ 2009 film ‘1 Day’ and various collaborations.

Lady Leshurr gained significant recognition for her ‘Queen’s Speech’ series of freestyles, particularly the fourth installment which achieved viral status in 2016, garnering millions of views. This success propelled her into wider public consciousness. In 2016, she won the MOBO Award for Best Female Act, and subsequent years saw her claim Best Rap / Grime Act in 2019 and Best Solo Female at the Birmingham Music Awards in 2020. Her career milestones extend beyond music, including significant television appearances and a prestigious national honor.

Demonstrating her diverse talents, Lady Leshurr participated in prominent television shows such as ‘The Celebrity Circle’ for Stand Up to Cancer, which she won in 2021, and reached the semi-finals of ‘Dancing on Ice’ in 2021. She was also appointed to BBC Radio 1Xtra with her own Saturday afternoon show in late 2020. In recognition of her contributions to music and charity, she was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the 2020 Birthday Honours.
