United States Aaron Bruno is an American musician, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, widely recognized as the founder and lead singer of the rock band Awolnation. His work spans various genres, from hardcore punk to alternative rock, and includes contributions to film soundtracks and video games.
Bruno collaborated with electronic music producer Kill The Noise on his 2015 album Occult Classic, where Bruno provided vocals on the songs "Kill It 4 the Kids" and "All in My Head."
Bruno has had a long-standing relationship with Red Bull Records. He was put in touch with the independent label by a friend when he decided to get back into music, and this partnership facilitated the early success of Awolnation. Following the pandemic, Bruno parted ways with his record label in favor of a new self-releasing/distribution partnership.
Primary Wave acquired a majority stake in the music publishing catalog of Awolnation's Aaron Bruno. Bruno expressed his excitement about joining the company's roster of iconic artists and catalogs.
Bruno has worked with the indie rock band IRONTOM, taking them on tour with Awolnation in 2015. He later produced their album 'Partners' (2017) and features on their final song, "Old and New Songs." Bruno also helped IRONTOM secure a record deal.
Aaron Richard Bruno, born on November 11, 1978, in Los Angeles, California, is a musician known for his diverse musical endeavors. Growing up in Westlake Village, he developed an interest in guitar before the age of 10. During his high school years, he was nicknamed “AWOL” for his tendency to leave parties early, a moniker that later inspired his band’s name. Bruno briefly attended Moorpark Community College but left to pursue his musical aspirations, focusing on recording and rehearsing with his band. His early career saw him involved in several bands, demonstrating his versatile musical interests.
Bruno’s musical journey began with the punk band Insurgence in high school, followed by Home Town Hero in 1999. With Home Town Hero, he signed with Maverick Records in 2001, touring with notable acts such as Stone Temple Pilots and Linkin Park. The band disbanded in 2004, leading Bruno to form Under the Influence of Giants, which signed with Island Def Jam and released a self-titled album in 2006. A significant turning point came in 2010 when he founded Awolnation, releasing the EP ‘Back From Earth,’ which featured the highly successful song “Sail.” “Sail” achieved significant commercial success, reaching number 5 on the U.S. Billboard Alternative Songs chart and earning sextuple platinum status in America, alongside double platinum in Canada. This marked a major milestone in his career.
Under Awolnation, Bruno released the album ‘Megalithic Symphony’ in 2011, performing all vocals, instrumentals, and writing for the album. He continued this approach with subsequent Awolnation albums, including ‘Run’ (2015), ‘Here Come The Runts’ (2018), and ‘Angel Miners & The Lightning Riders’ (2020). In 2022, he released ‘My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers, & Me,’ an album of cover songs. Beyond Awolnation, Bruno has explored other projects, such as forming the hardcore band The Barbarians of California in early 2024. His vocal style blends screamed aggressive tones with falsetto and lower belted vocals, a technique he refined over years across various genres.
