About

Alexander Guy Cook, born on August 23, 1990, in London, England, is an English record producer, songwriter, and record executive. He first gained recognition as the founder of the influential record label PC Music in 2013. The label became known for its exaggerated pop tropes, which laid the foundation for the hyperpop genre, a style Cook is widely credited with developing and popularizing. His early musical education included attending the King Alfred School in Hampstead and studying music at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he reconnected with future collaborator Danny L Harle. Together, they formed Dux Content, a musical project that explored complex musical arrangements and digital aesthetics. Cook’s artistic approach involves constructing tracks note by note, utilizing virtual instruments, and blending dissonant sounds, drawing inspiration from composers like Conlon Nancarrow and Black MIDI techniques.

Cook’s career progressed significantly with his involvement as executive producer for artist Charli XCX, contributing to her mixtapes, such as ‘Number 1 Angel’ and ‘Pop 2’ (both 2017), and albums like ‘Charli’ (2019), ‘How I’m Feeling Now’ (2020), and ‘Brat’ (2024). His solo career saw the release of his first singles, ‘Keri Baby’ and ‘Beautiful,’ in 2014, with ‘Beautiful’ being recognized as PC Music’s unofficial anthem. He also formed the one-off project QT with musician Sophie and performance artist Hayden Dunham, producing the 2014 single ‘Hey QT.’ In 2020, Cook released his first two albums, ‘7G’ and ‘Apple,’ both critically acclaimed for their exploration of hyperpop. That same year, he earned the Variety Hitmakers Innovator of The Year Award.

Recent milestones include co-producing Beyoncé’s song ‘All Up in Your Mind’ from her 2022 album ‘Renaissance,’ which earned him a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. In 2023, PC Music announced its transition to an archival label, marking a shift in its operational focus. Cook continued to release solo work, including his third album, ‘Britpop,’ in 2024, launched under his new record label, New Alias. His production work on Charli XCX’s 2024 album ‘Brat’ and its remix versions earned him a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album, along with a nomination for Best Remixed Recording for his “Von Dutch” remix. He has also collaborated with artists such as Jónsi, Hikaru Utada, Lady Gaga, and Troye Sivan, further cementing his impact across the music industry.
