Dirty Vegas originated in 2001, formed by Ben Harris and Paul Harris, who handled instruments and production, and Steve Smith, who provided vocals. The group quickly gained prominence with their debut single, “Days Go By.” This track initially charted in the top 30 in 2001 and, upon re-release in 2002, reached the top 20 in the UK. The song achieved widespread exposure in the United States in 2003 when it was featured in a Mitsubishi Eclipse television commercial, significantly boosting the group’s profile. Their self-titled debut album was released in June 2002, followed by their second album, “One,” in 2004. Dirty Vegas earned the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for “Days Go By.” They also became known for their remixing work for artists such as Justin Timberlake and Madonna.
The group temporarily disbanded in May 2005 after their final concert. During this hiatus, Steve Smith pursued a solo career, releasing his album “This Town” in February 2008. Paul Harris and Steve Smith also began collaborating on the film score for “Boys & Girls Guide To Getting Down.” In December 2008, after a four-year break, Paul Harris and Steve Smith reformed Dirty Vegas to create new material. This led to the release of their third studio album, “Electric Love,” in April 2011. In April 2013, they released the EP “Let the Night,” which reached number 4 on the US iTunes Dance Album chart and achieved Gold status in Italy. Their fourth studio album, “Photograph,” was released in September 2015. The song “Days Go By” also found renewed popularity when it was featured in the video game “Grand Theft Auto V” on in-game radio stations for Xbox One, PS4, and PC, which was retained in later enhanced versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Dirty Vegas’s music has been featured in various television shows. “Late Nights and Street Fights” served as the theme song for FOX television’s drama “Standoff.” “Closer” appeared in episode 32 of FOX’s “The O.C.,” entitled “The SnO.C.” The single “Walk Into The Sun” was included in episode 214 of “One Tree Hill.” The track “Never Enough” from their album “Electric Love” was featured in the game “Nike+ Kinect Training.” These placements demonstrate their consistent contribution to popular culture and various media projects over two decades.
