Bobby Estell, known professionally as Bobby Bones, was born on April 2, 1980, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and grew up in Mountain Pine, Arkansas. He began pursuing a radio career at the age of 17, working at Henderson State University’s campus station, KSWH-FM “The Pulse.” His early experiences included a station hand role at KLAZ in Hot Springs, where he was quickly put on air. After graduating from Henderson State with a B.A. in Radio/Television in 2002, he joined Q100/KQAR in Little Rock, Arkansas. His career progressed to hosting “The Bobby Bones Show” on KHFI-FM in Austin, Texas, where it became a top-rated morning program over a decade.
In 2012, Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) moved “The Bobby Bones Show” to Nashville, transitioning it to a country music format and launching it nationwide. The show is broadcast from WSIX-FM studios and has established itself as a significant platform for interviews with prominent country music artists and other celebrities. His influence in radio continued to grow, leading to national syndication through Premiere Networks in February 2013. The show now reaches millions of listeners weekly across the U.S., Canada, and the UK. Bones also hosts “Country Top 30 with Bobby Bones” and founded the Nashville Podcast Network, featuring various podcasts.
Beyond radio, Bones has made notable appearances in television and film. He was a guest mentor and later a full-time mentor on “American Idol” starting in 2018. In 2018, he also won season 27 of “Dancing with the Stars” with partner Sharna Burgess. His contributions to the industry have earned him numerous awards, including National On-Air Personality of the Year from the Academy of Country Music and an induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame.
