Alkaline Trio, formed in 1996 in Chicago, is a prominent American punk rock band known for their distinctive sound and impactful contributions to the genre. The band initially consisted of Matt Skiba, Rob Doran, and Glenn Porter, releasing their debut single “Sundials” in 1997. After Doran’s departure, Dan Andriano joined, enhancing the band’s dynamic with his co-lead vocals. Their early works, including the EP “For Your Lungs Only” and the debut album “Goddamnit,” established their reputation, showcasing their ability to blend catchy melodies with darker lyrical themes.
The band’s breakthrough came with the release of “From Here to Infirmary” in 2001, which featured hit singles like “Stupid Kid” and “Private Eye,” significantly increasing their exposure. This success was followed by the critically acclaimed “Good Mourning” in 2003, which marked the recording debut of drummer Derek Grant. The album’s high chart performance solidified Alkaline Trio’s status in the punk rock scene, demonstrating their evolution in sound and production quality.
In 2010, Alkaline Trio took a bold step by launching their own label, Heart & Skull, releasing “This Addiction,” which debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200, their highest charting album to date. The band continued to innovate with subsequent releases, including “My Shame Is True” and “Is This Thing Cursed?” showcasing their commitment to their punk roots while exploring new musical territories.
Most recently, in 2023, Alkaline Trio welcomed Atom Willard as their new drummer after Derek Grant’s departure. The band announced their tenth studio album, “Blood, Hair, and Eyeballs,” set for release in January 2024, alongside a headlining tour.
