Amel Bent

Amel Bent Bachir was born on June 21, 1985, in Joué-lès-Tours, Indre-et-Loire, France. She grew up in La Courneuve, a Paris suburb, with her Algerian father and Moroccan mother. Her career began after she reached the semi-finals of “Nouvelle Star,” the French version of “Pop Idol.” Although she did not win, her talent was recognized by producers, leading to the release of her debut album, “Un Jour d’été,” in late 2004.

The album achieved significant commercial success, selling over 550,000 copies in France. The single “Ma philosophie” was particularly impactful, selling more than 500,000 copies and holding the number one position in France for over six weeks. This early success established her as a prominent figure in French music. She released several more albums, including “À 20 ans” (2007), “Où je vais” (2009), and “Vivante” (2021).

Beyond her music, Amel Bent has participated in various television projects. In 2012, she competed in the third season of “Danse avec les stars,” finishing in second place and later winning the show’s Christmas special. She also served as a coach on “The Voice Kids France” from 2018 to 2019 and on “The Voice France” from 2020 to 2023, with a return expected in 2026. Her acting career includes roles in TV series like “Household Scenes” (2012-2013) and “Les Sandales blanches” (2021), as well as voice acting in the French dubbing of “Smallfoot” (2018).
