Andreea Ioana Moldovan, known professionally as AMI, was born on September 28, 1989, in Baia Mare, Romania. Her musical journey began at the age of three, showcasing early talent by winning a local music festival. She pursued formal musical education, studying violin for 12 years and later attending the National University of Music in Bucharest, specializing in Jazz Composition-Light Music. Her career advanced significantly when she served as a vocal backing artist for Paula Seling starting in 2009 and gained broader exposure as a contestant on the first season of X Factor in 2011.
AMI’s breakthrough came in 2012 with her debut single “Trumpet Lights,” a collaboration with producer David Deejay, which reached position 3 on the Top Airplay 100 charts. The following year, she collaborated with Grasu XXL on “Deja Vu,” a song that topped the Romanian charts and earned them four awards at the Media Music Awards Gala in 2014. This marked a turning point, as “Deja Vu” was her first single in Romanian and represented a shift in her musical style. Her career continued to evolve with appearances on reality TV shows like Ferma vedetelor (2016) and Exatlon Romania (2019), expanding her public profile beyond music.
More recently, AMI has continued to achieve recognition for her musical contributions and collaborations. In 2019, she co-composed Roxen’s debut single, “Ce-ți cântă dragostea,” which hit number one on the Top Airplay 100 in early 2020. That same year, she engaged in multiple collaborations, including “8 zile din 7” with B.U.G. Mafia, and emerged as the winner of the fifteenth season of Te cunosc de undeva!. In 2021, her single “Enigma,” featuring Tata Vlad from B.U.G. Mafia, peaked at number 3 on the Top Airplay 100. In 2020, she also lent her voice to a character in the Romanian dubbing of the animated movie Scoob!. Her recent work includes the 2022 collaboration “Butterfly Dance” with Sasha Lopez and the 2023 single “Nostalgia,” co-written with Florian Rus, demonstrating her ongoing presence and versatility in the music industry.
