Insomniacks is a Malaysian pop band recognized for its genre-blending sound and significant chart success, offering a unique appeal to diverse audiences.
Insomniacks were signed to Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia from 2017 to 2020. During this period, they released their debut single "Selalu" and their hit song "Pulang."
Insomniacks signed with Universal Music Malaysia in 2021 and have continued to release new music under this label, including their successful singles "Sempurna" and "Igauan Malam," along with the EPs "Teman" and "Awake & Dreaming."
Dolla and Insomniacks collaborated with Samsung on a Raya anthem titled "Lagu Raya Raya Raya" in 2023.
Insomniacks' debut single, "Selalu," was featured as part of the soundtrack for the Astro Ria drama, _My Coffee Prince_.
Insomniacks, a Malaysian pop band from Kuala Lumpur, formed in 2015. The band’s early lineup included Syed Mir Iqbal (Iqie) on lead vocals and guitar, Wan Arif Iskandar (Iskandar) on bass and vocals, Danial Lee Hashim (Danial) on rhythm guitar and vocals, and Gavin Wong (Gavin) on drums. The initial formation, known as ‘Dan’s Band,’ began when Danial and Iqbal, who were classmates at SMK St. John, started collaborating. Gavin joined subsequently through a recommendation from Iskandar, a schoolmate of Gavin’s and a childhood friend of Iqbal’s, with Iskandar later completing the quartet as the bassist. In November 2015, the band started its public presence by sharing cover song performances on their YouTube channel, cultivating an early following.
The band achieved mainstream recognition with their single “Pulang,” released in 2018. This track set a record on the Malaysian RIM streaming charts, appearing for 146 consecutive weeks initially, and a total of 185 weeks by July 2022. Building on this success, Insomniacks released their debut EP, “Kepala Batu EP,” in 2020, featuring the collaborative track “Kepala Batu” with Malaysian singer-songwriter Faizal Tahir. Following their departure from Sony Music Entertainment Malaysia in 2020, they signed with Universal Music Malaysia in March 2021. Their 2022 single, “Sempurna,” reached number 1 on the RIM Malay singles streaming chart and number 5 on Billboard’s Malaysia Songs chart. In 2022, Gavin Wong took an extended hiatus from the band, leading Insomniacks to continue as a trio. They subsequently released the single “Igauan Malam” in November 2022.
Throughout their career, Insomniacks have demonstrated consistent growth and adaptability. In 2024, they released the “Teman” EP, which included collaborations such as “Cerita Kita” with Nabila Razali and “Belum Mulai” with Nabila Taqiyyah. The latter earned them the Best Music Video award at the 2025 Gempak Most Wanted Awards. In January 2025, the band introduced their first English-language EP, “Awake & Dreaming,” which explored themes of mental health and featured their earliest written song, “Awake & Dreaming.” To commemorate their 10th anniversary, Insomniacks announced their first solo concert on July 12, 2025, marking a significant milestone in their career.
