Anees Mokhiber, born on July 30, 1992, in the suburbs of Washington D.C., is a Palestinian-American singer, rapper, and songwriter. He was raised in Northern Virginia and comes from Palestinian and Lebanese ancestry. Anees pursued higher education at George Mason University, where he majored in philosophy and sociology, graduating in 2014. These academic pursuits contributed to his development as a lyricist. Prior to his music career, he attained a Juris Doctor degree in 2017 from Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, a background he credits with helping him navigate the business aspects of the music industry as an independent artist.
His musical journey began to gain public traction in 2019 when he posted an early version of “Drunk on Myself” on Instagram. This was followed by a snippet of his first composition “Slip” on TikTok, leading to his official debut single “Neverland Fly” on April 14, 2020. This song addressed his personal battles with depression. A significant turning point occurred in April 2021 when Canadian artist Justin Bieber joined Anees’s Instagram Live during a performance of “Slip,” which dramatically increased his viewership and social media following, boosting his Instagram followers by 10,000 within an hour.
Building on this momentum, Anees released “Sun and Moon” in April 2022. The song quickly gained popularity, especially after he launched an open verse challenge on TikTok. A remix with JRoa helped the song reach number one on the Billboard Philippines Songs chart on May 7, making Anees the first international artist to top the list. As of May 2022, “Sun and Moon” garnered 20 million streams on Spotify and 5 million views on YouTube. His debut album, “Summer Camp,” was released in 2024, followed by a tour that included performances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and at major festivals like SunFest and Lovin’ Life Music Fest.
