The world’s most famous Dominican musician, Juan Luis Guerra has sold over 30 million records, scooped two Grammy Awards and eighteen Latin Grammy Awards in his blindingly successful career. This producer, singer, composer and songwriter is one of the most recognisable faces in Latin music, merging merengue, bachata, jazz and Afro-Latin fusion to create his own vibrant and dynamic sound.
Guerra and his band 4-40 released their first album ‘Soplando’ in 1984. The albums that followed steadily grew his acclaim within South America while leading to popularity and recognition overseas: 1990’s seminal ‘Bachata Rosa’ sold 5 million copies and secured Guerra his first Grammy Award. The group went on to release two more albums in the 90s and tour across Latin America and Europe, building a worldwide fanbase that remains today.
Following an extended break from music, Guerra returned in 2004 with ‘Para Ti’, earning two Billboard Awards the following year. Since his return to the studio and the stage, this legendary artist has released five more studio albums and continued to tour the globe, further establishing his position as a universally renowned figure within Latin music.
