Anna Lotterud, born on June 8, 1989, in Gjøvik, Norway, embarked on her music career with a foundation in graphic design. While studying in Melbourne, Australia, she met New Zealand producer Brady Daniell-Smith, leading to the formation of Anna of the North in 2014. The duo’s debut single, “Sway,” quickly gained online traction, resulting in a record deal with Honeymoon in the US and Different Recordings in the UK. This initial success was further amplified by an official remix of “Sway” by The Chainsmokers in September 2014. Subsequent singles like “The Dreamer,” “Baby,” “Us,” and “Oslo” continued to build momentum, earning critical acclaim and leading to a European tour supporting Kygo.
In 2017, Anna of the North released their debut studio album, “Lovers,” featuring the popular title track. The same year marked significant collaborations for Anna Lotterud, as she was featured on Tyler, the Creator’s tracks “Boredom” and “911 / Mr. Lonely” from his album “Flower Boy,” alongside artists such as Rex Orange County and Frank Ocean. These collaborations elevated her profile, leading to a performance with Tyler, the Creator and Steve Lacy on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Following Daniell-Smith’s amicable departure in 2018, Lotterud continued the project as a solo artist, releasing her second album, “Dream Girl,” in October 2019. The title track from “Dream Girl” later featured in an iPad Pro commercial in 2020.
Anna’s music has also been prominently featured in films, with “Lovers” appearing in the 2018 Netflix movie “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” Her song “Dream Girl” was included in the soundtrack for the 2021 sequel, “To All The Boys: Always and Forever.” In 2022, she contributed the songs “Dancing on My Own” and “Escape” to the original soundtrack for the romantic comedy “Rosaline.” Her third album, “Crazy Life,” was released in 2022, followed by the EP “Believe” in 2020 and a Norwegian-language EP, “Hei På Deg,” in 2025. Over her career, her music has accumulated over 550 million streams, demonstrating her widespread appeal.
