United Kingdom Cabbage was a Manchester-based quintet known for its idiosyncratic, satirical post-punk sound, delivering politically charged music from 2014 to 2021.
Cabbage signed a worldwide administration publishing deal with Blue Raincoat Songs. This partnership followed Blue Raincoat Group's acquisition of Chrysalis Music and their own global administrative deal with Kobalt Music Group.
Cabbage received support from the International Showcase Fund to embark on a busy touring schedule, including a sold-out UK tour and a main support slot on the NME Tour with Blossoms. This fund aids UK artists in performing at international showcasing events.
Cabbage was an English post-punk rock band formed in 2015 in Mossley, Tameside, England. The band consisted of co-frontmen Lee Broadbent and Joe Martin, guitarist Eoghan Clifford, bassist Patrick Neville, and drummer Asa Morley. Prior to forming Cabbage, Joe Martin had performed as a performance poet in Greater Manchester, with some of his poems later forming the basis for Cabbage songs such as “Dinnerlady.” Lee Broadbent was previously the drummer for Where’s Strutter? and Brahma-Loka. Eoghan Clifford had been the drummer for The Fayre and a member of Twisted Wheel, and Asa Morley had played with Storytellers.
The band quickly gained attention for their irreverent humor, energetic live shows, and politically charged lyrics. Their debut EP, “Le Chou,” was released in early 2016. This was followed by another EP, “Uber Capitalist Death Trade.” In 2017, Cabbage released “Young, Dumb and Full of…”, a compilation of their early singles and EPs, and “The Extended Play of Cruelty” EP. The latter release focused on themes of deceit and societal materialism, featuring tracks inspired by artists like Cosey Fanni Tutti.
In 2018, Cabbage released their debut album, “Nihilistic Glamour Shots,” which reached No. 21 on the UK Albums Chart. The album continued to blend social commentary with post-punk elements. In 2019, bassist Stephen Evans departed the band and was replaced by Patrick Neville. The band’s final album, “Amanita Pantherina,” was released in 2020. After six years, Cabbage announced their split in November 2021, concluding their career with a final tour and a B-side collection.
