Kele Okereke, primarily known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Bloc Party, has also established a notable solo career, expanding his musical influence across indie rock, electronic, and house genres. After co-founding Bloc Party in 1999, Kele Okereke quickly gained recognition as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, releasing the band’s debut album, ‘Silent Alarm,’ in 2005, which reached number 3 on the UK Album Charts. Subsequent success followed with ‘A Weekend in the City’ in 2007, an album that peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and number 2 in the UK Albums Chart. Okereke continued with Bloc Party, releasing ‘Intimacy’ in 2008, which further solidified their standing by peaking at number 8 on the UK Album Charts.
Following intense activity with Bloc Party, Okereke launched a solo career under the mononym ‘Kele’, expanding his artistic scope into electronic soundscapes. His debut solo album, ‘The Boxer,’ was released in 2010, building on a guest appearance on Tiësto’s ‘It’s Not the Things You Say’ (2009) and followed by the single ‘Tenderoni’ (2010) and the EP ‘The Hunter’ (2011). Okereke reunited with Bloc Party between 2011 and 2012 for ‘Four,’ which peaked at number three on the UK charts. His versatility continued with a feature on Sub Focus’ ‘Turn It Around’ (2013) and Bloc Party’s ‘The Nextwave Sessions’ EP the same year before releasing his second solo album, ‘Trick,’ in 2014.
Okereke is also preparing for Bloc Party’s upcoming 20th anniversary tour for ‘Silent Alarm’ and has further Bloc Party releases and his memoir in development. His seventh solo album, ‘The Singing Winds Pt. 3,’ is slated for 2025, underscoring his enduring presence and influence across multiple genres within the music industry.
